DIY Tie-Dying Tutorial

Bored at home? Looking for something to do? — Don’t want to spend $50 on a trendy tie-dye sweatshirt? I have the perfect DIY activity for you!!

A friend of mine on Instagram shared a picture of her in her cute tie-dye sweatshirt in a color I have been DYING (ha no pun intended) to get my hands on. Little did I know, she made it…for like $8. Seriously.

The reason it was so cheap is because its just a simple Hanes crewneck sweatshirt that she got at Wal-Mart. I ordered one on Amazon [ you can get it here ] in a size XL in mens and I honestly could have gone one size bigger considering I am so tall and I want one that I don’t have to wear pants with! haha no ashamed at all.

SO here is the tutorial part!

Items you will need:

sweatshirt of choice, liquid household bleach, water, rubber bands, gloves to protect your hands, container for your sweatshirt if you aren’t doing it outside!

1: Get your sweatshirt in the color (dark is preferred if you want that copper/orange/grayish toned color—black is best for this!)

2: Soak the sweatshirt completely in cold water + ring out (be sure to get all of the excess water out!)

3: Lay flat on surface — pinch the center (or wherever you want the spiral to start) of the sweatshirt and simply spiral it so that it combines into a nice spiral shape!

4: Place rubber bands around the sweatshirt in 6 sections (aka 3 rubber bands equally sectioned around the sweatshirt!)

5: Get 1/2 part bleach + 1/2 part water in a smallish container!

6: Pour the bleach mixture one 3 of the sections skipping every other one!

7: Flip sweatshirt over + pour on those same 3 sections!

8: Let the bleach mixture sit on the sweatshirt for approx. 4 minutes. You can do more but the sweatshirt will turn more gray as the bleach sits on it so I washed mine out quicker so I retained the orange/brownish/copper tones to the sweatshirt!

9: Rinse with COLD water until the water runs pretty clear!

10: Stick in wash machine + wash on COLD + then DRY or HANG!

EASY DOES IT! — it took me 15 minutes total before putting it in the wash! So easy + so cute!
